The off-year of a country is the 23rd of the twelfth lunar month. But in some places in the south, it is twenty-four years old. Some don't eat jiaozi.

Off-year is also the day when the kitchen god goes to heaven. It is said that the Kitchen God returned to heaven after a year on earth, and liked to report the beating, so people asked the King to seal his mouth with kitchen candy that day and eat jiaozi with the whole family. Jiaozi is used to eating it in the northern New Year's Eve, which means to bid farewell to Kitchen God and "send away the windward side of jiaozi".
