What does the sheriff mean?

Local officials are immortals in China folklore.

The emperors of the three officials, namely the heavenly officials, the local officials and the water officials, also known as the "three officials" and the "three yuan", were the gods of early Taoism. Tang Yao is a celestial official, Yu Shun is a local official, and Dayu is a water official. The Taoist scriptures say: God bless the people, local officials forgive sins, and water officials forgive Eritrea.

Supplement: The local officials are all called Emperor Xu Qingdi, the second-class pardon official in the Central Plains, belonging to the Qing Dynasty. The local officials are composed of Yuan Dong's miscellaneous spirits and essence, and they are the immortals of the Five Emperors and Five Mountains. On July 15th every year, when you come to the world, you should abstain from sin and be blessed, and forgive sins for others, which local officials call forgiveness.

Sacrifice: The three officials of Heaven, Earth and Water regard the 15th of the first month, 15th of July and 15th of October as the birthdays of the gods. Taoists all enter the temple to burn incense and sacrifice, or set up a golden Dojo to pray for disaster relief.
