The fifth day of the first month is the "birthday of the God of Wealth", and southern China worships the God of Wealth on this day. According to the old custom, during the Spring Festival, from the beginning of the New Year's Day, large and small shops are closed together, and every family is reopened on the fifth day of the first month. Everyone gets up at the first crow, sets off firecrackers, hangs red cloth on the signboard and drinks the wine of the God of Wealth. There must be a big carp in the sacrifice. "Carp" is the homonym of "profit", so it is called "Yuanbao fish".

Folklore also says that the god of wealth is a five-way god. The so-called five roads refer to the east, west, north and south, which means that you can get money when you go out of five doors. Anyone who receives the God of Wealth will offer sheep-headed carp. Offering sheep's head means "auspiciousness", while offering carp is the homonym of "fish" and "profit", which means auspiciousness. Therefore, every New Year, people will open doors and windows, burn incense and set off firecrackers at 0: 00 on the fifth day of the first month to welcome the God of Wealth.
