Longmen Grottoes experienced several dynasties.

The grottoes in Longmen area began in the Northern Wei Dynasty, flourished in the Tang Dynasty and finally ended in the late Qing Dynasty. After the Northern Wei Dynasty, the Eastern Wei Dynasty, the Western Wei Dynasty, the Northern Qi Dynasty, the Sui Dynasty, the Tang Dynasty, the Five Dynasties, the Song Dynasty, the Ming Dynasty, the Qing Dynasty and other dynasties 10, it has been built for more than 400 years and has become the longest grotto in the world.

Longmen Grottoes, located in Luoyang City, Henan Province, is the largest treasure house of stone carving art in the world, with the largest number of statues. It was rated as the highest peak of stone carving art in China by UNESCO, and the first of the caves in China. Now it is a world cultural heritage, a national key cultural relic protection unit and a national AAAAA-level tourist attraction. Longmen was dug by Dayu when he was controlling water, and the legend of fish jumping over Longmen also happened here.

There are 2345 existing grottoes, with more than 1 1000 statues. A lot of paintings were used when building, but most of them have faded. Longmen Grottoes, built by royal nobles, is the only royal grottoes in the world. There are mainly Lushena Buddha statues carved by Wu Zetian according to his own appearance, Guyang Cave carved by Emperor Xiaowen for Feng Taihou, Sunyu Wanfo Cave of Samurai Lanling and his eldest grandson Lee Tae.

The origin of the name

According to the Water Mirror Notes, in the past, Dayu dredged Longmen with water, and the two mountains were opposite, so it was called Yi Que, Longmen, also known as Yi Que. Here, the east and west mountains face each other, and the Yi River flows through it. From a distance, it looks like a natural gate, so it is called Yi Que in ancient times. Both sides are blocked by cliffs, which is relatively like a gate, but dragons can cross it, so it is called Longmen.

In the Sui Dynasty, Emperor Yang Guang of Yang Di climbed Mangshan Mountain in the north of Luoyang and saw a que in the south of Luoyang from a distance. He said to his entourage, isn't this the portal of the real dragon emperor? Why didn't the ancients build their capital here? A minister replied obsequiously, the ancients didn't know, just waiting for your majesty. Yang Di was very happy after hearing this and built it in Luoyang.
