What soil should be used for planting flowers?

Into the pit, a novice planter, talked with Uncle Miao about selecting soil.

At present, there are many kinds of cultivated soil that can be used for planting, and many people don't know what kind of soil to buy. Miao Shu, a plant maintenance tool, makes a brief introduction to the commonly used soil. I hope everyone will be more handy in the choice of planting soil in the future ~

1, garden soil

The soil in a field or vegetable garden can also be called cooked soil, because plants are planted all the year round, and the soil is loose in nature, with more nutrients than raw soil, but the pests and diseases in the soil are also serious, so it can be treated when used. The simplest thing is to spread it out on a sunny day, let the temperature of the sun kill pathogenic bacteria and eggs, and mix some pesticides.

2. Humus soil

Plant branches and leaves in the soil are decomposed and fermented by microorganisms to form nutrient soil with good water permeability, rich organic matter and slight acidity. Humus soil is very suitable for family flowers. However, when taking soil from the forest, it should be noted that the unfermented leaves in the upper layer should be pushed away first, and the dark brown leaves below are fermented humus.

3. Mountain soil

Humus soil from the mountains. There are Huangshan mud, Hongshan mud and Heishan mud. The drainage and water permeability of mountainous soil is general, and the organic matter content is less, but it is very suitable for planting camellia? Plants that like sticky soil a little.

4. Peat soil

Peat soil was produced after being buried underground for tens of thousands of years. Loose texture and good water and fertilizer retention ability are the most commonly used cultivation substrates at present.

Advantages: light texture, loose and breathable, strong water and fertilizer retention ability, containing certain organic matter, generally not containing egg buds.

Peat soil is almost an indispensable planting material in flower cultivation. When preparing nutrient soil, it is often mixed with other planting materials in proportion. Because of the different origin of peat soil, the composition and texture will be different.

5. Perlite

Perlite is so light that it floats when watered, just like foam. Usually mixed with peat soil.

Advantages: light weight, good drainage, good air permeability and low price.

6. Coconut bran

Coconut bran is a popular cultivation substrate in recent years, which is made from coconut shell fiber.

Advantages: light weight, strong water retention and environmental protection.

Although coconut chaff has strong water retention, it has no nutrients, so it is not recommended to use whole coconut chaff as a plant (if you use whole coconut chaff, you need to use organic fertilizer as the base fertilizer, and then topdressing regularly), and you can use peat soil and perlite.

Coconut bran is easy to compress and often made into square bricks, so it is also called coconut bricks. When in use, you need to soak your hair in water first. A brick can make a big pot. If it is soaked too much at one time, it needs to be dried and bagged for storage, otherwise it will be moldy.

7. Vermiculite

Vermiculite is a layered silicate.

Advantages: light weight, good water retention and good air permeability.

Because of its good water retention and permeability, fine particles and no egg buds, it is mostly used for cutting and rooting.

8. Rice husk ash

Rice husk ash contains a certain amount of potassium fertilizer, and its alkalinity is relatively high, so it is not suitable for planting flowers that like acidic soil (such as jasmine and gardenia), but plants that like alkaline soil are very suitable (such as clematis).

Therefore, when we choose the soil for planting, it is not a single plant material, but a mixture of many plants in a certain proportion. There is no definite formula for which kinds (usually blended with about three kinds of media) and what proportion. As long as it is loose, breathable, strong in fertilizer and water retention and strong in drainage, it is good soil.

For the convenience of Xiaobai, the following simple formula is given, which can be adjusted according to the actual situation.

1, suitable for most plants: peat soil+perlite+vermiculite+rice husk ash/humus soil.

2. Proportion of soil for succulent plants: peat soil+coconut chaff+perlite+gravel.

3. Suitable for sowing and seedling raising: peat soil+rice husk ash+perlite.

4. Suitable for cutting seedling: peat soil+vermiculite.

Miao Shu warmly reminds: In order to increase soil fertility, granular slow-release fertilizer can be added while mixing soil, and the fertilizer effect usually lasts for 3-6 months. The soil mixed with fertilizer is suitable for adult plants and seedlings to change pots, but not for sowing and seedling raising.
