Fortune Telling Collection - Ziwei fortune-telling - What is millet?

What is millet?

Because most of the millet we usually see always likes to bow their heads after hitting their heads, just like giving gifts to pedestrians, we feel embarrassed, so we call it polite crops.

Xiaomi is also called Xiaomi. After peeling, we affectionately call it "millet", which has been a favorite food of people in northern China since ancient times. Its planting area accounts for about 5% of the national grain crops and 10% ~ 15% of the northern grain crops, second only to wheat and corn.

China has the largest millet planting area in the world, followed by Indian, Afghan and some countries in East Africa. In the United States, Canada and Australia, it is mainly used as feed, not human food.

Xiaomi's hometown is China. The grain found in the Neolithic site in Cishan, Hebei Province has been more than 7,900 years now, indicating that millet was planted in the Central Plains as early as the Neolithic Age.

Millet is distributed in all provinces in China, but it is mainly distributed in Huaihe River, Hanshui River, north of Qinling Mountain, east of Hexi Corridor, south of Yinshan Mountain and Heilongjiang Province. In recent years, the sown area of millet is about 50 million mu. North China has the largest area, accounting for 35%, followed by Northeast China, accounting for 27%, then Northwest China, and there are not many species south of Huaihe River.

Millet is widely planted in China, and the natural conditions in different regions are quite different. Therefore, after long-term artificial cultivation and natural selection, a very rich variety resource has been formed.

Millet is not only delicious, but also nutritious. It can be made into millet, millet porridge and various cakes. However, you may not know that when Xiaomi is growing, its adaptability is very strong. Although it grows well under good conditions, it is more tolerant than many crops such as wheat and corn under the condition of water and fertilizer shortage.
