Wei Zi Temple in Zhangzhou, Fujian

On July 30th, 20 18, I visited Wei Zi Temple in Zhangpu County, Zhangzhou City, Fujian Province.

Wei Zi Temple was founded in the 13th year of Shaoxing in the Southern Song Dynasty (1552). It was founded by monk Sikh and has a long history of nearly 500 years. All previous dynasties were Buddhist holy places.

The temple built a Buddhist temple centered on two huge stones, with natural caves on the left and right sides as rooms, and even the total area of the hatchback monk's house reached 800 square meters.

Huang Daozhou, a university student of Wuying Temple in southern Fujian, once gave lectures at Wei Zi Temple, and wrote inscriptions such as Deep in the White Clouds, Boundless Buddha Nature and Pity for Yin for the Zen Temple. Master Hongyi once went to Wei Zi to write a stone carving named "Wash the Heart" for the temple.

During the Republic of China, Wei Liu, the chairman of Fujian Province, commended Wu's donation to the Anti-Japanese War and went to the temple to write a couplet: "Heaven and earth create the realm of true Buddha, and the mountains and rivers are beautiful and show Zen."

Wei Zi Temple has experienced ups and downs and historical vicissitudes. At the end of the Republic of China, Buddhist monk Shi Youen practiced penance here; 1953, the temple was demolished and the Wei Zi Temple was destroyed. 1986, Wei Zi Temple was listed as "county-level cultural relics protection unit" by Zhangpu County People's Government.

1988 On the eighth day of the eighth lunar month, Lin, a local Buddhist woman, led her followers to rebuild the temple. From 65438 to 0989, Lin went to Xiamen Buddhist College to study Buddhism. A year later, she and several monks from Xiamen Buddhist College went to Wei Zi Temple to practice.

Starting from 1993, Wei Zi Temple began to expand the infrastructure such as the temple, the Zhaitang, the Ursa Major Hall, the Dizang King Hall and the Wenchang Palace, with a total construction area of more than 2,000 square meters. 1May 1996, Wei Zi Temple was registered as a place for religious activities;

In August 1996, Shi Miaozhi, a centenarian monk, lived in Wei Zi Temple for five years. His life span is 1 16 years old. After his death, he became the first physical monk in Fujian Province.
