What is Lagerstroemia indica?

Eriococcus lagerstroemia kuwana, also known as the pomegranate scale scale scale, belongs to the HOMOPTERA mealybug family. Distributed in Liaoning, Shandong, Hubei, Shaanxi, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Sichuan, Jiangxi, Hefei and North China. Harm pomegranate, crape myrtle, Ligustrum lucidum, smiling face, pomegranate, zinnia, shoulder pole, triangle maple and so on.

Damage form

Often live in groups, and the leaves, bud axils, tender tips and other parts of branchlets suck juice, which makes the leaves wither and the tree vigor weaken, affecting appreciation and flowering.

The female adult is about 2.5 mm long, oval, flat and dark purple. When it is mature, it is wrapped in gray velvet cocoon and looks like white rice grains. The male insect is about 1 mm, purplish red, with 1 pair of wings. Eggs are purplish red and round. Nymphs are purple-red, oval and have spines around their bodies.

Occurrence characteristics

The second generation is 1 in Beijing and the third generation is 1 in Shanghai. Overwintering with fertilized female adults, eggs or nymphs in the skin seams of branches. June and August of each year is the peak period of nymph hatching, and it is also the key suitable period for control. Damage occurs from May to 10 every year. Generation overlap. Female adults lay their eggs under the tapetum (egg bag) behind their mother. Each female adult lays about 100 eggs. After a period of crawling after hatching, nymph fixation is harmful.
