Cultivation techniques of Tilia amurensis
1. Seed preparation: Collect mature Tilia amurensis seeds in autumn or winter. Seeds should be fully mature and brown or dark red. Soak seeds in warm water for 24 hours to help break their dormancy.
2. Seeding container: select seedling tray or seed tray suitable for seed growth. Ensure that the container has good drainage performance to prevent water accumulation.
3. Seed treatment: put the seeds into the fresh-keeping room of the refrigerator for cold stratification treatment. The seeds are put into wet vermiculite or sand, put into sealed bags, and put in the refrigerator for 2-3 months to simulate the hibernation period of seeds in the natural environment. Low temperature stratification treatment is helpful to break the dormancy of seeds and promote their germination.
4. Sowing: after the cold stratification treatment of seeds is completed, the seeds are placed on the surface of the sowing container. Be careful not to sow too closely and leave a certain space between each seed.
5. Covering soil: lightly cover the seeds with a thin layer of seedling soil, which is generally 1-2 times the thickness of the seeds. Then gently wet the surface with a watering can to maintain proper humidity.
6. Light and temperature: Place the seedling tray in a warm and bright position, but avoid direct sunlight. The ideal temperature is 20-25 degrees Celsius. Cover the seedling tray or use a transparent cover to keep the humidity and temperature stable.
7. Continuous moisturizing: pay attention to keep the soil moist, but not too moist, so as not to cause seed rot. Use a watering can to gently spray water for wetting, while maintaining proper ventilation.
8. Germination and transplantation: Tilia amurensis seeds generally germinate within 4-6 weeks after low temperature stratification and proper temperature and humidity conditions. When the seedlings have two true leaves, they can be transplanted into suitable flowerpots or flower beds, and can provide appropriate light and water.
It should be noted that the germination time of seeds may be different and you need to wait patiently. In addition, Tilia amurensis requires higher soil, and acidic soil is an ideal choice for its growth. In the process of planting, timely weeding and proper humidity and nutrient supply are helpful to the healthy growth of Tilia amurensis.
