Yingtianmen was originally named Zetianmen, and was renamed yingtianmen in the first year of Shenlong (705).

Yingtianmen, the south gate of Wei Zi Palace in Luoyang City in Sui and Tang Dynasties, is a huge building complex, including gatehouse, overlapping building, east-west building and its corridor. Yingtianmen is magnificent and highly regular, which is one of the important buildings on the central axis of Luoyang City in Sui and Tang Dynasties. It is also an important occasion for the emperor to issue decrees, meet envoys and show his dignity.

Yingtianmen is the highest standard gate in ancient China. Its organizational system had a far-reaching impact on Xuandemen, the capital of the Northern Song Dynasty, Chongtianmen in the Yuan Dynasty and Wumen in the Forbidden City in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Its name was even taken by the yingtianmen in Kyoto, and it is known as "the first gate in Sui and Tang Dynasties" and "the first gate in the world", which occupies an important position in the architectural history of Miyagi in China.
