Brief introduction of Bai Juyi

Bai Juyi (772-846) was born in Xiangshan. His ancestral home is Taiyuan and his ancestral home is Xiadu (now Weinan, Shaanxi).

On February 28th, 772 (20th day of the first month of the seventh year in Dali, Tang Daizong), he was born in Xinzheng (now Henan). He became a scholar at the age of 29. He used to be a bachelor of Hanlin, a historian, and Zuo Zanshan. He was demoted to Jiangzhou Sima for offending powerful people, and later served as the secretariat of Hangzhou and the minister of punishments.

His poems are satirical and easy to understand. His representative works include Song of Eternal Sorrow and Pipa Travel. Bai is the author of Evergreen Collection.

In his later years, he lived in Xiangshan, Longmen, Luoyang, hence the name Xiangshan layman.

Leisure poems and allegorical poems are two kinds of poems that Bai Juyi pays special attention to. Both of them are practical, vulgar and all-powerful, but they are quite different in content and artistic conception. Satire poems aim at "both economy and society", which are closely related to social politics and are often written with passion; Leisure poems are meant to be "independent of goodness" and "content with peace and play with temperament" (Yu Yuan's Nine Books), thus showing an indifferent, peaceful and leisurely state of mind.

Bai Juyi's leisurely poems have a great influence on later generations. Their down-to-earth language style and indifferent and leisurely mood have been praised many times. However, compared with these poems, the "leisure" thought of retiring from politics and settling down, as well as the attitude of returning to Buddhism and imitating Tao Yuanming, have a far-reaching influence because they are more in line with the psychology of later literati. For example, Bai Juyi's poems "If you get two snail horns, you get a drop of water" (drinking seven songs), "If you get something on the snail horns, send it to me in the firelight of the stone" (drinking five songs, the second song) and "Knowing what happened on the snail horns from now on" (Wu Zeng's "Can Get Busy" Volume 8). That is to say, in the theory of names in the Song Dynasty, "the names of drunkards, pedantic old people and Dongpo are all from poetry" ("Gong Yizheng hides mustard seeds"). Zhou Bida, a poet in the Song Dynasty, pointed out: "Su Wenzhong doesn't allow this. He only loves lotte and writes poems repeatedly. Gai's article is eloquent, honest and generous, outspoken, affectionate with people, lacking in things, and roughly similar. Living in Huangzhou, the first name is Dongpo, and it must have started from Lotte Zhongzhou. " All these show the influence track of Bai Juyi and his poems.
