What is the relationship between Fuxi and Nu Wa in ancient times?

It is often confusing to trace the relationship between Nuwa and Fuxi in ancient times.

Everyone is familiar with the story of Nu Wa's making man, mending the sky and managing water. The article says: Hey, the ancient saint, the one who changed everything. Then it is obvious that Nu Wa should be the creator god who existed before human beings appeared. At least at the same level as Pangu.

What about Fuxi? Taiping Yulan quoted in Poems with Fog says that Razer is a great trace, and Hua Xu followed it and gave birth to Fuxi. That is to say, Fuxi was born to a woman in Hua Xushi. No matter how powerful she is, she is also a person, not a god!

But later, Fuxi gradually became Nuwa's husband. In the brick murals unearthed in the Han Dynasty, there are many patterns in which the tails of Nu Wa Fuxi intersect. Mating = mating, so both Nu Wa and Fuxi are gods. During the Spring and Autumn Period of Lu, Fuxi became the head of the Five Eastern Gods, the God of Tai Hao, as well as Nu Wa. In ancient Greek mythology, there is a myth that Gaia, the mother of the earth, gave birth to the Titan clan after mating with her son.

But in many southwest folklore, Nu Wa Fuxi became a brother and sister again! It is said that Fuxi Nuwa is the nephew of Lei Gong. The Lei Gong brothers fought and the people were drowned by the flood. Only Fuxi's brother and sister hid in the gourd and survived. Later, they got married and continued to breed human beings.

Here, Fuxi and Nu Wa have become human beings again, far from the grand momentum of the goddess mending the sky. Moreover, according to textual research, this story also evolved from the story that Tiger Pan, a god dog, married a man and had children, and then they paired up to reproduce. Another evolutionary version of Pangu story is Pangu Tiankai.

Therefore, these stories of Fuxi Nuwa Pangu are actually different legends of different periods and tribes, which have evolved and merged in later generations. Nu Wa is obviously the creation myth of matriarchal society, but in paternal society, the status of men has improved, so there has been a male creation god like Fuxi Pangu, and with the blending and migration of many other tribes, myths and legends have gradually merged, forming a complex relationship now.
