The origin of suzaku

At present, its original origin is still inconclusive. If we look at the cultural relics, the lacquer box of the tomb of Zeng Houyi in the Warring States period unearthed in Sui County records the complete names of twenty-eight lodges and four elephants such as Suzaku for the first time.

According to the arrangement and research of astronomical data of Oracle Bone Inscriptions unearthed in Yin Ruins, it is found that the images of Suzaku and other four elephants have been produced in Oracle Bone Inscriptions in the early Yin Shang Dynasty.

Later, cultural relics recording the image of Suzaku were unearthed in the early Western Zhou Dynasty, but there were only four elephants at that time, namely Black Dragon, White Tiger, Suzaku and Lu Shen. Among the four known images, the "Xuanwu" image has not yet formed.

At present, the earliest records can be found in Oracle Bone Inscriptions unearthed in Yin Ruins: Ding Sibu, Zhen Bird, San Yang, San Dolphin and San Dog, which means divining on Ding Siwei and asking the emperor to sacrifice Zhu Bird, San Yang, San Pig and San Dog. In addition, the lacquer box of the tomb of Zeng Houyi in the Warring States period unearthed in Sui County recorded the names of 28 huts and four elephants for the first time, and the names of four elephants such as Suzaku were also impressively listed.
