Can I give my friend a coin as a reward?

You can't give people merit coins, because in some parts of our country, giving coins means giving them to the dead.

To do merit, as the saying goes, is to ask monks or Taoist priests to recite scriptures and make confessions in order to cross over, which means to say good things to show respect.
