Protection of Ancient Books in Shanghai Library

At present, Shanghai Library has compiled more than 30,000 volumes of ancient books10.8 million, inscriptions10.6 million, and modern letters10.8 million in Ming and Qing Dynasties. The large increase in the collection fully shows that with the care and support of all walks of life, the above picture attaches great importance to the collection and preservation of traditional cultural heritage.

For a long time, the above picture has tried its best to protect ancient books if possible. In particular, the completion of the new museum 1996 has greatly improved the conditions for the collection of ancient books. For example, rare books have been kept at constant temperature and humidity, and later nanmu boxes were made to collect national first-class cultural relics. 1996 With the support of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government, a working group was set up to rescue historical documents, as shown above, and began to rescue and sort out a large number of unedited documents accumulated over the years. This is the largest collation and protection of ancient books carried out over the years. It has been going on for nearly ten years and has achieved remarkable results. For example, a special library of genealogy and inscriptions with a total area of 800 square meters will be built; Repair a large number of damaged genealogies and some inscriptions; Compiled and published the "Shanghai Library Collection Genealogy Summary", reflecting the collection of more than 65,438+10,000 kinds and more than 65,438+/kloc-0,000,000 copies; The family background of the inscriptions in the collection has been preliminarily found out, and its database is also being made. This not only effectively protects a large number of historical documents that have been dusty for decades, but also makes them available to readers and achieves good social benefits.

However, due to historical reasons, there are still about 500,000 ancient books and more than 20,000 inscriptions in the above picture, and a large number of ancient books damaged by insects need to be carefully repaired. Limited by the current manpower and material resources, the collation and protection of ancient books will still be a protracted war.
