Fenghuang Ancient City is located in the southwest of Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Hunan Province, at the southern foot of Wuling Mountain and in the east of Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau. Old Town of Lijiang is located in Old Town of Lijiang, also known as Dayan Town.

Fenghuang Ancient City was built in the 43rd year of Qing Emperor Kangxi (1704) and is one of the top ten cultural heritages in Hunan. It was once praised as the most beautiful town in China by the New Zealand writer Alley, comparable to Old Town of Lijiang in Yunnan and Pingyao in Shanxi, enjoying the reputation of "Pingyao in the north and Phoenix in the south". It is a national historical and cultural city and a national AAAA-level scenic spot.

Old Town of Lijiang was founded in the late Song Dynasty and early Yuan Dynasty (1end of 3rd century). The streets of Old Town of Lijiang are surrounded by mountains and rivers, covered with red breccia, and there are four scenic spots, namely Sifang Street, Shogunate, Wufenglou, Heilongtan, Wenchang Palace, Xueshan Academy, Wangjiazhuang Christian Church, Baimalongtan Temple, Jinglian Temple and Fukenji. Old Town of Lijiang has rich and colorful local ethnic customs and entertainment activities, such as Naxi ancient music, Dongba ceremony, divination culture, ancient town bar and Naxi Torch Festival.
