Interpretation of Rongzhai No.7: Why was Guo Pu stabbed to death in the toilet?

In Rong Zhai's Essays, there is an interesting article Guo Pu's Burial Ground. The original excerpt is as follows:

Shi Shuo: "Guo Jingchun crossed the river and lived in Jiyang. The tomb was not full of water, and people thought it was near the water. Jing Chun said,' It must be the ground.' Nowadays, the wind and sand are gradually rising, and mulberry fields are dozens of miles away from the tomb. "Said this cover with guo as a prophet. The Buddhist Scripture at the Top, handed down from ancient times, was written by Guo, and the man who walked on the mountain and prayed for blessings was printed as Yuan Gui. However, Guo Can knows that water is land, but can't Butch be afraid that it will die? On holding a knife in the toilet.

In translation:

There is a record in Shi Shuo Xin Yu: "After Guo Pu crossed the south, he lived in Jiyang. He chose a cemetery for himself. This land is less than 100 step from the river. At that time, people felt that the land was too close to the water and there was a risk of being flooded. Guo Pu said, this land will become land soon. Later, the sediment rose and dozens of miles around the cemetery became fertile fields. "

Judging from this story, Guo Pu has a strong predictive ability. The widely circulated Zangtou Jing was written by Guo Pu, and all geomancers regard this book as a classic. However, if Guo Pu can predict that the river will turn into land, can't he predict a good divination to avoid being killed? It is shallow to offer a drink in the toilet with bare hair and a knife to avoid death.

There is an interesting place in this record, which is the knife in the toilet. Go to the bathroom with a knife in your mouth? What the hell is this?

This is actually an allusion. The protagonist, the psychic Guo Pu mentioned above.

It is said that Guo Pu has always had a good relationship with Huan Yi. Every time Huan Yi visits, sometimes Guo Pu happens to be in the back room, so he goes to see him directly.

So Guo Pu said to him, "If you come to see me, you can go in and out of other rooms at will, but don't look for me in the toilet, or there will be disaster for both the host and the guest."

Then Huan Yi got drunk and came to Guo Pu. While Guo Pu was going to the toilet, Huan Yi took a sneak peek and saw Guo Pu naked, with her hair hanging freely and a sword in her mouth. When Guo Pu saw Huan Yi, he was surprised and said, "I often told you not to come here, but you must come. You not only hurt me, but also made me suffer. This is also an act of god. Who do I blame? "

Since then, Guo Pu died in Wang Dun, and Huan Yi also died in the Soviet rebellion.

In other words, if Guo Pu didn't emphasize it so deliberately, which guest would go to the toilet to find the owner?

So, is all this destiny takes a hand, or will you not die if you don't die?

In the first year of Yongchang in the Eastern Jin Dynasty (322), Wang Dun, the powerful minister, wanted to rebel. Wen Qiao and Yu Liang, loyal to the imperial court, asked Guo Pu for divination. Guo Pu replied that he could not judge. Wen Qiao and Yu Liang let them take away bad luck, while Guo Pu said it was good luck.

After Guo Pu left, Wen Qiao and Yu Liang said, "Guo Pu said he didn't understand, but he didn't dare to make it clear. Maybe God wants to grab Wang Dun's soul. Today, we are doing great things for our country. Guo Pu said it would be a great success. " So he suggested that the emperor crusade against Wang Dun.

Before this, Guo Pu said many times: "The man who killed me was Shan Zong." As a result, a man named Chong urged Wang Dun to call Guo Pu for divination, but Guo Pu's answer was unsuccessful.

Wang Dun suspected that he had persuaded Wen Qiao and Yu Liang and listened to the evil divination he reported, so he said to him, "Please give me another divination and see how long I can live." Guo Pu replied, "According to the divination just now, if you start fighting, there will be a catastrophe soon. If you live in Wuchang, you will live a long life. " Wang Dun was furious: "Do you know your life span?" Guo Pu said, "I died at noon today." Wang Dun was very angry, arrested him and ordered him to be taken to Nangang for execution.

Although Guo Pu is regarded as the originator of Feng Shui, he is by no means as simple as an ordinary fortune teller. Guo Pu is an orthodox Christian, that is, a disciple of Zhang Tianshi. In addition to his family's Yi-ology, he also inherited Taoist techniques and mathematics, and was the most famous alchemist in Jin Dynasty. It is said that he is good at predicting prophets and many strange alchemies.

In addition, he is also good at ancient Chinese, variant characters, astronomy, calendar calculation and divination, and prose, especially the famous poems about immortals.

Zhong Rong's Poem called it "the beginning of Yongjia plain style, so it was called ZTE first"

Liu Xie's "Wen Xin Diao Long" also said: "Jing Chun Shen Xian, tall and handsome."

Guo Pu spent 18 years researching and annotating Er Ya, explaining the names of ancient animals and plants with the popular dialect names at that time, and making annotations and drawings for them, making Er Ya an important reference book for studying materia medica in past dynasties. The pictorial classification of animals and plants initiated by Guo Pu has also been used by all large-scale herbal works since the Tang Dynasty.

He also annotated Dialect, Classic of Mountains and Seas, Biography of Mu and Buried Classic.

Such a character is simply a genius.

Let's review Hong Mai's evaluation again. Hong Mai thinks that since Guo Pu is proficient in numerology, why should he rely on holding a knife in the toilet to avoid disaster? He thinks such behavior is superficial.

But let's look at it from another angle. When looking for him for divination in Wenqiao, he thought that no matter whether divination was really effective or not, under the circumstances at that time, he made such a judgment as an alchemist, which objectively strengthened the determination of the court to quell the rebellion in Wang Dun.

On the other hand, Wang Dun asked him for divination, and he naturally knew what to answer. He went with a heart of death. He knew Wang Dun wouldn't listen to himself, but he went anyway.

You can think of it as resignation, but in my opinion, he is trying to stop the rebellion, knowing that he can't.

It is obvious from his conversation with Wang Dun that he wants to stop the rebellion in Wang Dun. After all, at this time, the north falls across the south. If there is a rebellion in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, only the people will suffer, so Guo Pu opposes it. However, in the face of Wang Dun's lust for power, this sincerity led to death.

Therefore, Guo Pu is by no means a superficial person. In front of the wheel of history, he or Wang Dun, what he did personally, was just a gladiator. However, Guo Pu stuck to his inner goodness and died a fair death!

Finally, Mr Guo Da is not only knowledgeable, but also an amazing person.

Guo Pu Biography of the Book of Jin records an interesting story.

When Guo Pu crossed the Lujiang River in the south, he took a fancy to Hu's handmaid, the satrap of Lujiang. But I was too embarrassed to ask directly, so I began to think about it. He made it secretly and sprinkled red beans around Hu Zhai at night.

The next morning, the house that Hu suddenly found was surrounded by thousands of people in red. When they came closer, the people in red disappeared. So back and forth, Hu felt very strange and told Guo Pu about it.

Hearing this, Guo Pu said nonsense, "This is messing with your maid. Send her to the southeast for takeout. Don't bargain when selling, so that the evil spirits at home will be removed. " At Guo Pu's words, the satrap Hu sent a servant girl to twenty miles southeast. Guo Pu sent his family there and bought a maid at a low price.
