Is it right for Zuo Zhuan to study historical gains and losses and sum up lessons?

The king of Jin went on to say that Zuo Shi is a book with rich words, which was not written by the Lord. Zuo Zhuan represents the highest achievement of pre-Qin historiography, and He Xun rated it as "Zuo Zhuan with great sense of history, literariness and profound breadth as mountains and seas". It is an important document to study the history of the pre-Qin Dynasty and the history of the Spring and Autumn Period, which has a great influence on the historiography of later generations, especially in establishing the status of chronological history books. Moreover, because it has a strong Confucian tendency, it emphasizes hierarchical order and patriarchal ethics, and pays attention to the distinction between honor and inferiority. It also shows the idea of "people-oriented" and is also an important historical material for studying Confucianism in the pre-Qin period.

Zuo Zhuan mainly records the decline of the royal family in Zhou Dynasty and the history of the hegemony of princes, and records and comments on various etiquette norms, laws and regulations, social customs, ethnic relations, moral concepts, astronomy and geography, calendar seasons, ancient documents, myths and legends, and ballads. Zuo Zhuan is good at forecasting, and some things predicted are very effective. For example, in the twenty-second year of Zhuang Gong, it was recorded that Dr. Chen Yi married Dr. Tian for divination, which was very lucky. "After eight, I can't stay in Beijing." Sure enough, Qi became stronger and stronger. Zuo Zhuan can assert that Guo Zhengxian died first. Jin Fanning commented on the characteristics of the three biographies of Spring and Autumn Annals: "Zuo's family is gorgeous and rich, but its loss is also a witch." Gu Liang is clear and elegant, but its loss is short-lived. "The ram was argued and beheaded, but it lost its vulgarity." Han Yu said: "The Spring and Autumn Period is rigorous, and Zuo's family is exaggerated." .

Zuo Zhuan is also an excellent literary work. Researchers have always regarded it as the ancestor of historical prose together with Historical Records. "There is something left in prose, and there is semantics and dedication in Ma Shu." Xunzi quoted a lot of Zuo Zhuan. Zuo Zhuan is especially good at describing war, so some people call it the book of alternate phases (Fang Fang Shu), which is good at depicting characters and attaching importance to recording rhetoric.

Zuo Zhuan has been circulated in the Western Han Dynasty. Wang Mang himself is a good Zuo Zhuan and a scholar. Famous scholars include Chen Yuan, Joe Cheng, Jia Kui, Ma Rong, Yan Dou, Peng and others.
