Dad, Dad is Han Shaogong's novella and one of his famous works in the past 30 years.

Han Shaogong's novella Daddy Daddy describes the historical changes of Jitouzhai, a primitive tribe, with symbols and fables, showing a closed, stagnant, ignorant and backward national cultural form.

The hero of the work is Bing Zi, who is an idiot. Through his description, he outlined some abnormal and morbid ways of thinking about traditional culture, and expressed the writer's profound reflection and criticism on traditional culture. Son C is a little old man who is "old before he gets old" but never grows up. He looks weird and obscene, and he can only say two words repeatedly: "dad, dad" and "mom x" However, such an irrational person with unclear language and confused thinking was regarded as a divination of Yin and Yang by all the villagers in Jitouzhai, and he was honored as "Master C", "Uncle C" and "Immortal C". Therefore, C-cub, which lacks normal thinking, is showing the morbid mental symptoms of villagers' ignorance and irrationality. After the war between Jitouzhai and Jiweizhai, most men died, but the soldiers survived tenaciously. This image that will never grow up symbolizes the stubbornness, ugliness and irrationality of life. His two prophetic phrases not only contain the most primitive and basic forms of the creation and continuation of human life, but also have the mysterious significance of the close connection between individual life and traditional culture. At the same time, it implies that the absolute "binary opposition" thinking mode in the traditional culture that has long influenced and restricted the progress of human civilization will never change.

Han Shaogong dissected the ancient, closed and almost primitive cultural inertia through Daddy Daddy, which clearly showed his negative and critical attitude towards traditional culture. Han Shaogong is basically a realistic writer. However, due to his admiration for the witch culture of Chu and the romantic tradition of Lisao, while examining the national inferiority with a strong sense of hardship, he revived the grotesque, mysterious and magnificent mythological meaning in Chu culture with the help of fables, symbols and other artistic means, which made the text dyed with romantic and mysterious colors and left people with endless aftertaste and thinking. We have said that "root-seeking novels" mostly adopt the traditional realistic narrative style, while "Daddy Daddy" adopts the absurd "fable" style, which may be an exception.
