Translation of Shi Shuo

Tang hanyu

(1) Ancient scholars must have teachers. Therefore, those who are taught by the profession are also confused. People who are not born with knowledge can not be confused and learn from teachers. Confusing and ultimately incomprehensible. Before they were born, their knowledge of Taoism was solid, so I used it for reference. After I was born, I studied Taoism first, so I studied Taoism. I get the Tao from the Tao, and my husband knows (1) that I was born one after another in my life, so it is neither expensive nor cheap, neither long nor short, and the existence of Tao and teachers also exists.

In ancient times, people who read books had to have teachers. Teachers rely on (him) to impart truth, lecture and explain problems. People are not born with knowledge and truth. Who can have a problem without asking the teacher? Those problems will never be solved. People born before me knew the truth and knowledge earlier than I did, so I should learn from him. If the people born behind me know the truth and knowledge before me, I should also learn from them. What I learned (from them) was truth and knowledge, whether they were older or younger than me. Therefore, regardless of status or age, where truth and knowledge are, teachers are also there.

(1) [Yong know] which tube. Forever, or, which; Recognize, recognize.

(2) Hehe! It's been a long time since the teacher passed on the Tao! It's hard to be confused! The ancient sages are far away, and they are still in the teacher's question; Nowadays, many people are far from saints and are ashamed to learn from their teachers. So saints benefit from saints and fools benefit from fools. The reason why saints are saints and fools are fools is because they love their sons and choose teachers to teach them. On him, he is ashamed of his teacher's ignorance and confusion. He is a boy's teacher and learns his sentences from the books he teaches. He is not the kind of person I said who tries to solve his confusion by spreading his teachings. He is puzzled by his own words, or ignorant of the teacher's ignorance, or absent from primary school. I have never seen his knowledge. Witch doctors are the masters of all things, and they are ashamed of being teachers. Scholar-officials are a family, calling teachers disciples clouds. Obviously, the teacher's path has gone. Witch doctors are proficient in everything, but gentlemen are dismissive. Today, his wisdom is out of reach, strange and embarrassing!

Translation: alas! The fashion of learning from teachers has been lost for a long time! It's hard to make people have no problems! In ancient times, saints were far superior to ordinary people, and they even asked teachers for advice; Now ordinary people are far below saints, but they are ashamed to learn from teachers. Therefore, saints are more enlightened and fools are more ignorant. Isn't that why saints become saints and fools become fools? If people love their children, they will choose teachers to educate them. But for myself, it is foolish to be ashamed of learning from teachers! Those children's teachers are teachers who teach children to read and tell them to learn to punctuate sentences, not what I call teachers who teach truth and solve problems. They don't punctuate sentences or solve difficult problems when reading. (In these two cases,) the former goes to consult the teacher, while the latter doesn't, learning the small ones and losing the big ones. I can't see (such a person) being clever. Wizards, doctors, musicians and craftsmen of all kinds. When it comes to "mentoring", we get together and laugh at others. When they asked them (why are you laughing), they said, "That man is about the same age as that man, and his moral knowledge is comparable. It is very shameful to learn from the lowest, and to learn from the highest is similar to flattery. " Alas! It is conceivable that the fashion of learning from teachers cannot be restored. Witches, doctors, musicians and craftsmen are all looked down upon by literati, but now the intelligence of literati is not as good as (these people). Is this really not strange?

(3) Immortals are impermanent teachers. Confucius studied under Tan Zi, Changhong, Shi Xiang and Lao Dan. Tan Zi is not as talented as Confucius. Confucius said: If there are three people, there must be a teacher. Therefore, your disciple need not be inferior to your teacher, and your teacher need not be superior to your disciple. You have the priority of teaching and learning, and your skills are specialized. That's all.

Seventeen-year-old Li is good at ancient prose, and his six arts are quite famous in annals. He ignored the time to learn from Yu Yu. Yu Jiaqi can learn from the ancient road and write Shi Shuo to make it last forever.

Sages have no fixed teachers. Confucius studied under Tan Zi, Changhong, Shi Xiang and Lao Dan. However, Tan Zixue is not as talented as Confucius. Confucius said: three people walk together, and someone can be my teacher. So students are not necessarily inferior to teachers, and teachers are not necessarily smarter than students. (It's just that they have their own academic foundation after knowing the truth.

Pan, the Li family's child, is seventeen years old this year. He likes classical Chinese, likes the Six Classics and their biographies, and has studied them all. He was not restricted by the customs at that time, so he came to learn from me. I praised him for practicing the right way of asking the ancients for advice, so I gave him this "Teacher's Theory".
