What was Oracle Bone Inscriptions written on? When is it mainly used?

Oracle Bone Inscriptions is an ancient script in China, which is also called "Wen Qi", "Oracle Bone Inscriptions", "Yin Ruins" or "tortoise shell and animal bones". It mainly refers to the characters carved on tortoise shells or animal bones by the royal family in the late Shang Dynasty in China, and it is the earliest known systematic Shang writing carrier in China and East Asia. Oracle Bone Inscriptions is one of the orthodox characters in China.

It is generally believed that Wang, an official and epigraphist in the late Qing Dynasty, discovered Oracle Bone Inscriptions from the Oracle Bone Inscriptions unearthed in Anyang, Henan Province in the 25th year of Guangxu (1899). Xiaotun Village in the northwest of Anyang City is the location of the "Yin Ruins" in the late Shang Dynasty.
