Where does the English name of Mantis come from?

The English name of mantis comes from Greek, which means "soothsayer", because the ancient Greeks thought mantis had supernatural power. Mantis can stand still or swing gracefully back and forth, raise its head and stretch out its front feet as if praying, from which many myths and legends are derived. Mantis is fierce and aggressive by nature, and often swallows a little when food is insufficient. Female mantis eats male mantis.
