This pair of popular couplets actually evolved from a pair of couplets promoting smoking cessation (opium) in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China:

Because fire, if you don't let go, it will always be bitter;

If you leave the government and become a museum, you will become an adult if you can learn.
