Why is Wenzhou dialect difficult to understand?

Minnan dialect has a very long history, which originated in the Yellow River and Luoshui Valley. Now it is mainly distributed in southern Fujian and Taiwan Province Province, and is also used by many people in northeastern Fujian and eastern Zhejiang. Different from other dialects, Minnan dialect is also widely spread in Southeast Asia, because most Chinese come from southern Fujian.

Minnan dialect has 14 initials, 83 finals and 7 tones. Mandarin has 23 initials, 24 finals and 4 tones.

As can be seen from the above, there is a great difference between Minnan and Mandarin.

In addition, Minnan language is less influenced by other languages, so it develops slowly, which is not much different from Minnan language hundreds of years ago. It retains more features of ancient Chinese, so it is also a very difficult dialect to understand.

Wenzhou dialect is a sub-dialect of Wu dialect, which is mainly used in Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province and belongs to Sino-Tibetan language family. It is quite different from Mandarin in pronunciation, vocabulary and even grammar. And its biggest feature is that it is different from each other, self-contained, and can not communicate in any language. Therefore, as the most difficult dialect to learn, it really deserves it.
