About the story of Yue Lao, basically I have only heard a beautiful and romantic legend.

Legend has it that there was a young man named Wei Gu in the Tang Dynasty. One day he went out for an outing and stayed in a hotel in the south of the city that night. In the evening, Wei Gu walked on the moon and came to the back garden. He saw an old man reading a book under the moon with a trick on his back. He hurried forward to salute and asked what books to read. The old man smiled and said, "wedding invitations" are also. Gu Wei believes that Marriage Book must be a book about human marriage. Seeing the toolbox bulging and glowing, he asked what was in it. The old man smiled and said, "Red rope." Wei Gu asked again: What's the use of red rope? The old man took out a red rope from his bag. When the sky flashed, he saw a red light hovering at Wei Gu's feet, and then flew north. The old man told Wei Gu that this rope was a couple's foot. Although the enemy's home is poor and isolated, this rope will be harmonious and will not be violated. When Wei Gu saw that his marriage was settled, he quickly asked himself who he should marry. The old man replied, "So is the daughter of the old woman who sells vegetables in the north of the store." Then he disappeared.

The next day, Wei Gu got up early to freshen up, and soon found an old woman selling vegetables in the north of the store, and specially asked her daughter. What I saw was a three-year-old girl, unkempt, sallow and emaciated and ugly. I couldn't help being angry, but I pulled out my sword and stabbed it. The girl gave a cry of surprise, and the old woman let out a cry. Wei Gu abandoned his sword and fled.

Ten years later, Wei Gu became a military commander and married Xiang Niang, the daughter of Wang Tai, the secretariat of Xiangzhou. On the wedding night, Wei Gu uncovered Xiang Niang's red skull and saw that his wife was very beautiful. He saw a small flower cut with red paper between his eyebrows and asked why. After listening to Xiang Niang's narrative, I realized that Xiang Niang was the daughter of an old woman who sold vegetables that year. The husband and wife woke up from their dreams, fell in love with each other, and their children and grandchildren grew old together. In the future, ordinary people will worship the "old man under the moon" as the god of marriage.

This story must be known to many people, but it is indeed the origin of Yue Lao, and this is the "a thousand miles of marriage".
