The origin of Surabaya

Surabaya, also known as Sihe River, originated at the southern foot of Mengshan Mountain in Shandong Province and is an ancient river that flows through Xuhuai. Surabaya is the largest tributary of the Huaihe River, covering almost one third of the Huaihe River basin. In history, there are many famous rivers flowing into the Huaihe River, such as ancient anti-water, ancient Sui (Sui Tong) water, water supply and Yishui, and the scale of Surabaya can be imagined. The ancient poem "Surabaya, Bianshui, Flowing to Guazhou Gudu, Qingshan Xiaochou" not only points out the flow direction of Surabaya, but also sings the sorrow on both sides of Surabaya. The geographical location of Surabaya is very important. As early as more than 2,000 years ago, Yugong had a record of "going down the river and reaching Huaisi". Most of the ancient feudal dynasties in China were based on the Yellow River Basin, and Surabaya became the lifeline between Jianghuai and the Central Plains, which played a very important role in cultural exchanges and economic development between the North and the South. Many important historical events recorded in Historical Records are often related to Surabaya. At the end of the Spring and Autumn Period, Fu Cha, the king of Wu, held a meeting on the bank of Jishui for the Central Plains. It is from the Yangtze River to the Huaihe River through the Han River, and then from the Huaihe River to the Sihe River, going north. Surabaya is also a place where talented people come forth in large numbers. Gave birth to a large number of historical celebrities such as Liu Bang, Xiang Yu and Han Xin. Some places are also named after Surabaya, such as the ancient Surabaya Kingdom, Siyang County and Sizhou City. Therefore, it is no exaggeration to say that Surabaya is a golden waterway and a symbol of ancient civilization. After the Song and Jin Dynasties, the Yellow River and Jiangnan frequently invaded the Huaihe River, and a large amount of sediment carried by the Yellow River gradually silted up the Surabaya River. By the middle of the Ming Dynasty, it had become a strategic situation, constantly overflowing. In the fifth year of Xianfeng in Qing Dynasty (A.D. 1855), the north of the Yellow River was a disciple, leaving an abandoned Yellow River 4~6 meters above the ground on both sides of the river. Although Surabaya no longer exists in Jiangsu, the name Surabaya, together with its historical position and influence, has remained in the hearts of several generations.
