Where is the Baiyun Temple in Shanghai?
Baiyun Temple is the seat of Shanghai Taoist Association and Taoist Culture Research Center. In the late Qing Dynasty, Xu Zhicheng, a Taoist priest in Jiading, built Leizu Temple in Dongxing Bridge. In the eighth year of Guangxu (AD 1882), Leizu Temple was moved to this site. Later, Xu Zhicheng obtained more than 8,000 volumes of Taoist scriptures, and Leizu Hall was renamed "Baiyun Temple on the Sea". Baiyun Temple is the largest Taoist temple in Shanghai. At present, the preserved buildings are: Gong Ling Palace, Lingxiao Jindian, Laojun Hall and Leizu Hall, among which the existing seven bronze statues of Ming Dynasty have not been seen by other Taoist temples in China. The Ming edition of Taoist Collection, now the treasure of Baiyun Temple, has been moved to Shanghai Library for collection.
