Zhang Tianyi (1September 26th, 906-1April 28th, 985), whose scientific name is Ding, whose pen names are Cold Land and Zhang Tianjing and Tie Chihan, is a contemporary writer in China.

Born in Shuangquan Village, Dongshan Township, Xiangxiang County, Hunan Province, he finished primary school and junior high school in Hangzhou, arrived in Beijing in the autumn of 1925, and was admitted to Peking University the following year.
