Where is Mazu Tempel?

Meizhou Mazu Tempel is located in the northeast of Gongxia Village, Meizhou Town, Xiuyu District, Putian City.

In the fourth year of Song Yongxi (987), after Mazu ascended to heaven, people built a temple and offered sacrifices in Meizhou Island to commemorate her. This temple is the earliest Mazu Tempel. According to the literature, the temples at that time were only "a few rafters", but "the blessing game was almost empty."

Later, after the continuous expansion and renovation of Sanbao and others, during the heyday (1023- 1032), Meizhou ancestral temple was constantly "expanded by people blessed by Mazu" and "the porch became more majestic". At this time, the ancestral hall has begun to take shape.

In the Ming Dynasty, Meizhou ancestral hall was further expanded. When Zheng He went to the West, due to Mazu's contribution, he was ordered to send officials to repair the Meizhou ancestral temple. In the sixth year of Xuande (143 1), before Zheng He went to the Western Ocean for the last time, he personally prepared wood and stones with local officials and renovated the Meizhou ancestral hall again.

In the 23rd year of Kangxi (1684), Shi Lang, Hou of Jinghai, built a dressing room, Chaotian Pavilion, a Buddhist temple and a monk's room. Then the ancestral hall was built with Kannonji, Middle Temple and Earth Temple. After the reign of emperor Qianlong, Meizhou ancestral hall has been quite large, with 99 rooms.
