Brief introduction of Yancheng dialect

Yancheng dialect refers to the dialect used in Yancheng area, and yancheng dialect in a broad sense refers to the dialect used in Old Yancheng County, that is, Yanhuai section of Jianghuai Mandarin (including Jianhu, Du Yan, south of Sheyang Huangsha Port and north of Dafeng Doulong Port, Xinghua shagou town dialect); Yancheng dialect in a narrow sense only refers to yancheng dialect in the simple dialect.

Phonetic Features of Yancheng Dialect

Yancheng phonology has obvious transitional characteristics between Hong Chao dialect and Tongtai dialect, or was once a part of Tongtai dialect in history.

Characteristics of Yancheng dialect

Fu Bin Tablet and Jianyan Tablet belong to Yanghuai Tablet in Jianghuai Mandarin (but there are obvious differences between them), and Fengtai Tablet belongs to Tongtai Tablet in Jianghuai Mandarin. The differences between them are as follows: the former has only one tone category, and the consonants of ancient voiced consonants are disyllabic today, so the consonants are not aspirated when they are rubbed; The latter has two tones: yin entering and yang entering. Nowadays, the voiced consonants in ancient times are mostly pronounced as entering tone, and the consonants are aspirated when they are stopped or rubbed. Among them, the salt-building tablets have the transitional properties of Yanghuai tablets and Tongtai tablets.
