What is the shoulder width standard?

The normal shoulder width of men is 375mm, and that of women is 351mm. The total shoulder width refers to the arc length of the back from the left shoulder to the right shoulder through the midpoint of the back neck (the seventh cervical vertebra point). The total shoulder width is defined as the natural droop of the measured arm, and the horizontal arc length between the left and right shoulder peak points is measured. Shoulder width should be the linear distance between the peaks of deltoid muscle on both sides of the body, which is mainly determined by the length of clavicle and the development of deltoid muscle. The standard shoulder width of a normal person should be a quarter of his height, or two heads long or three heads wide.

Measurement method

Measurement method: The subjects' legs are shoulder width apart, and the shoulders are relaxed and stand naturally. The tester stands on the back of the subject, first touches the midpoint of the lateral edge of the acromion with two index fingers along the scapular ridge, that is, the acromion point, and then measures the distance reading between acromion points with calipers. The measurement error shall not exceed 0.5 cm.
