Introduction to Huayan Temple in Datong Huayan Temple Tickets Introduction to Huayan Temple

Today, I want to introduce Huayan Temple in Datong to you. Huayan Temple will be very different from other places, that is, the orientation of its gate. The gate faces east, not south. This is quite different from most buildings in China. What's different behind this Huayan Temple?

Huayan Temple's introduction to temples is not only related to Buddhism in a broad sense, but also has many titles in Buddhism itself. Especially if you lengthen it a little longer, you will find that in fact, in the Qin Dynasty, official residences were generally called temples.

People who are familiar with temples should know what the state of temples is. Generally, they burn incense and worship Buddha. I walked into Huayan Temple today.

Huayan Temple is located in the southwest of Datong ancient city. The temple was built in the seventh year of Liao Dynasty (AD 1038), and its name is based on the Buddhist classic Huayan Sutra. Temple architecture has the nature of the royal ancestral temple in Liao country and occupies a prominent position in the local area. This temple was also destroyed by the war, and was rebuilt in the third year of Jin Dynasty (1 140).

Huayan Temple was announced by the State Council as the first batch of national key cultural relics protection units in 196 1. In 20 14, it was recognized as a national AAAA-level tourist attraction, and the temple is a well-preserved Liao-Jin temple in China. The temple covers an area of 66,000 square meters.

You can also see a plaque on the temple, which reads "pure heart and good deeds" and "three sages of the East". He is also known as the "Three Statues of Pharmacists", which enshrines the pharmacist Tathagata. On the left and right are Sunlight Bodhisattva and Moonlight Bodhisattva.

This pharmacist Buddha can cure not only physical diseases, but also fools.

Sakyamuni temple

The plaque reads "Daxiong Hall" and "Tiaoyulangjun", among which "Daxiong" and "Tiaoyulangjun" are actually honorifics of Sakyamuni Buddha. Look at the plaque again. The original author of this Ming Dynasty plaque is Ma Lin, the chief soldier of the Ming Dynasty.

There are three statues of Five Dhyani Buddhas on the altar in the middle, all of which are Ming Dynasty antiques.

The Buddha statue in Hualien

The Buddha statue in Hualien actually has a long history. It is said that when Huayan Temple was built, there happened to be a skillful craftsman with outstanding carving skills outside the city who was recruited into the royal family, but he couldn't bear to keep his young only daughter at home and didn't want to take her in. The government also beat up the emperor for disobeying his orders. The craftsmen's request saved him from suffering, but he still had no choice but to go to the royal family.

His daughter missed her old father and pretended to be a man and went with her. Later, I believe everyone has heard the story of jumping into the bell tower and boiling hot iron water. It is impossible to know whether to sacrifice your soul or to be beaten.

The young craftsman remembered the appearance of the old craftsman's daughter before her death, and carved a bodhisattva statue according to her posture, shape and eyes before her death. The statue is in a prominent position, with a grin on it.
