About Kaiyuan Temple in Shunyi

Shunyi City was founded in the 22nd year of Zhenguan in the Tang Dynasty (AD 648), formerly known as Han Danguo. In the fourth year of Kaiyuan (AD 7 16), because of his active participation in counterinsurgency, Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty conferred the title of Handan House and gave it a new name "Guishun House". From the end of the Tang Dynasty, it was called Zhou Shun for short; In the Ming Dynasty, the state was reduced to a county, formerly known as Shunyi County.

In the heyday of Tang Xuanzong's life, he ordered all countries in the world to choose a well-located and large-scale temple, named Kaiyuan Temple or Kaiyuan Temple, as a landmark building in the prosperous era of Kaiyuan. So Kaiyuan Temple was established.

Different from other monasteries, Kaiyuan Temple has statues of Xuanzong himself besides statues of Buddha and Bodhisattva. According to the documents handed down from ancient times, most of the statues of Xuanzong in Kaiyuan Temple in the world are made of copper, while others are made of jade, stone, wood and mud. In addition, some Kaiyuan temples also provide portraits of Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty.

It is not clear whether these statues, statues and portraits enjoy incense offerings on weekdays, but every year on the fifth day of August, that is, the birthday of Emperor Xuanzong of Tang Dynasty, they are worshipped by all ethnic groups.

As early as the 17th year of Kaiyuan (AD 729), he instructed two prime ministers, Song Jing and Zhang, to take the lead in calling the emperor's birthday "Festival".
