Characteristics of Guiyang dialect

Guiyang dialect is a kind of southwest mandarin. Generally speaking, there is little difference between Southwest Mandarin and Beijing Mandarin, especially in grammar. But the proximity is different, and there is still a difference.

The internal differences in Southwest Mandarin are even smaller. Guiyang dialect is the representative of Guizhou dialect and can also represent other southwest mandarin in many places. Not only do most of them exist in local dialects such as Sichuan and Hubei, but some even go beyond the scope of Southwest Mandarin.

Guiyang dialect belongs to the southwest branch of the northern dialect family. Guiyang is located in the wet and mountainous Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau. Although it is adjacent to Yunnan and Sichuan, most of the residents come from these places (there are also many in Jiangxi), so the language is very similar. However, due to the long distance, high mountains and inconvenient movement, the language is different from that of Sichuan and Yunnan, which has regional characteristics and becomes Guiyang dialect.

Sichuan dialect, including Chongqing dialect, is represented by Chengdu dialect in central Sichuan. It is characterized by high tone, humor, and a lot of two-part allegorical sayings (called "Zhan Yanzi" in Sichuan dialect), which often makes people laugh. It can be said that Tianjin dialect, the hometown of cross talk in China, can be described as "Tianjin dialect in the north and Chengdu dialect in the south".
