Having a boy is a gift, and having a girl is a gift. Why is it different?

In ancient times, people who gave birth to boys were called Tianding, which means that boys are people who can continue the lights at home. In ancient times, blood relationship was more important, so it was particularly important to carry on the family line. After giving birth to a girl, people call it Tim Kou, which means that there is another person who reaches out to eat at home, and there are more ingredients to dislike. Why is there such a big difference between giving birth to a boy and a girl? In ancient times, the idea of son preference was deeply rooted for three reasons.

The first is influenced by Confucianism. We know that Confucianism is the official thought of our country for thousands of years. Since its birth, it has formulated a strict hierarchy for people, such as the system of rites and music, the system of monarch and minister, etc. Almost all ancient emperors were men. It is considered that the criticism of the female emperor Wu Zetian by Confucianism in history is deviant and unacceptable to the world. Confucianism puts men above women. Men can have three wives and four concubines, but women must obey the four virtues. They obeyed their fathers when they were unmarried, and their husbands when they were married, and made rules and regulations for women, so that women had no chance to breathe during the feudal period. Influenced by Confucianism, people prefer boys to girls.

The other is the policy of emphasizing agriculture and restraining business. Ancient emperors always valued agriculture over commerce, and our country was always under the self-sufficient small-scale peasant economy. A large agricultural country has a great demand for labor. In this respect, men have more advantages in physical strength, and women can only weave and sew clothes and sell some manual work to supplement their families. Parents think that girls just have a pair of chopsticks at home, which is a burden.

Finally, blood. Ancient people attached great importance to consanguinity, and thought that having a boy could carry on the family line and ensure the purity of family blood. Although girls have the same blood, they will get married after all. The water spilled by the married daughter belongs to others and raises children for others.

The preference for boys over girls is an unequal thought and the dross of feudal times. We should abandon this idea in the new era. From the beginning, the laws of People's Republic of China (PRC) stipulated that everyone was equal. Equality has nothing to do with gender, race, age, etc. Men and women should also be equal.
