Huizhou Hakka fortune telling

Huizhou Dialect, also known as Huicheng Dialect, Fucheng Dialect and Zhou Zhen Dialect, is a local dialect popular in the old city of Huizhou. Its pronunciation is based on Huicheng Dialect and belongs to Hakka Huizhou Dialect.

Huizhou dialect is a special dialect in Hakka area. Influenced by Cantonese, it has gradually evolved into a special dialect that not only retains some characteristics of Hakka dialect, but also absorbs some factors of Cantonese. Some phonetics are different from Meixian Hakka dialect and are listed as independent Hakka dialects in Atlas B 1987. Traditionally, a few kilometers away from Huizhou city can't communicate in Huizhou dialect.

Hakka dialect has a history of more than 2000 years and is the main dialect in Huizhou. Huizhou dialect, which originated from Hakka dialect, was formed and handed down at least 1,500 years ago, five or six hundred years earlier than Hakka dialect in eastern Guangdong (before the Eastern Jin Dynasty). Together with Guangfu dialect in Cantonese, it is one of the earliest dialects in Lingnan. It is the oldest Hakka dialect in Guangdong, with vivid language and rich meaning. It is not only a tool for Huizhou aborigines to exchange their thoughts and feelings, but also an important carrier and part of the cultural heritage of the whole Dongjiang River basin, which breeds local cultural and artistic treasures and is mainly popular in Hakka areas of Dongjiang Yu River basin.

Dialect research experts have discussed whether Huizhou dialect is Hakka or Cantonese for decades. Some scholars think that Huizhou dialect is the "national language" of Tielou ancient country, but the mainstream opinion in the field of Chinese dialects thinks that Huizhou dialect belongs to Hakka dialect, which represents the migration history of Hakka people for thousands of years and is an important part of China Hakka dialect, which has become the consensus of Hakka people at home and abroad.

In recent years, great changes have taken place in the vocabulary of Huizhou dialect. There are many commonly used words and idioms, some of which are gradually out of use or replaced by other words. Some young people don't fully understand their meanings or even know them at all. The publication of Huizhou Dialect Dictionary is both timely and necessary from the perspective of preserving local characteristics, local culture and language.
