Murder tab memory diary

Memories of murder is the third feature film by South Korean director Feng Junhao, who has directed Korean Monster and Snow Country Train. The film is based on 1986- 199 1 a series of unresolved rape and murder cases in South Korea, and tells the "memories" of Park Duoman as a policeman when he was young. The stereotyped characters, classic narrative and formulaic plot show that memories of murder is a typical example of the localization of Korean crime movies. This paper will make a superficial analysis of this film mainly from the narrative point of view.

The narrative of Murder Memories accords with the narrative structure of the origin, process, climax and ending of classicism. In addition, the film adds a follow-up beyond the main story to explain the "memory" nature of the film. The main narrative has two clues: one is the investigation process, that is, the bright line; The other is the psychological and emotional changes of Park Duoman in the process of investigating the case (because the film is Park's "memory"), which is the dark line.

First, the substitution of reasons and the appearance of the protagonist.

The initial scene of the film is an open farmland, and one of the protagonists, police officer Park Duoman, comes out-he sits in the back seat of a tractor and drives the children below. And his purpose is to look at the crime scene of a rape and murder case-at this time, Park's police identity can also be explained to the audience. The film then briefly describes the investigation process of police officer Park, including his face sampling of several suspects, communication with reporters surnamed Park and cooperation with colleagues. This shows that Park has some characteristics: ordinary appearance, recklessness and irritability, and has his own set of handling methods (such as taking notes on suspects and judging criminals through eyes). At the same time, the close relationship between the police and media reporters is also explained here, which runs through the film from beginning to end. The discovery of the second female corpse also emphasizes the origin of the film: the rape and murder at the beginning of the film is not accidental.

Second, after the performance.

After explaining the cause of the story, the film officially launched a narrative investigation.

1. The first suspect, Guang Hao.

Police officer Park learned from his wife Guo Kou that Guanghao, the son of the owner of Baijia Barbecue Restaurant, was suspected of committing a major crime. However, the appearance of Guang Hao gives the audience a very unreliable feeling-this ugly and mentally handicapped person is sitting in the game hall playing video games. (This arrangement is also reasonable. From the following article, on the one hand, it shows that the police station's ability to judge cases is low, on the other hand, it also paves the way for the following events. ) In the process of detaining and interrogating Guang Hao, the characteristics of police's violent law enforcement are also manifested: Guang Hao was illegally detained, police officer Joe punched and kicked Guang Hao (one of the foreshadowing of the film), and police officer Park forged the scene evidence and forced Guang Hao to record a false confession (one of the foreshadowing of the film). ...

At the same time, another protagonist of the film, police officer Su Taiyun, appeared. The film deliberately creates the mystery of Su's appearance, giving the audience the illusion that he is a criminal: Su Taiyun, carrying a backpack, walked out of an empty farmland in the vast fog, in front of him where the first victim was killed (as can be seen from the close-up of the scarecrow); A nervous woman walked in front of Sue. She thinks Sue is the murderer (she must have read the newspaper report), and the passing police officer Park gave her a bottle of soda. This dramatic misunderstanding also shows Su's character from the side, because he took the initiative to apply for a series of rape and murder cases in Gyeonggi Province from Seoul.

Su Taiyun began to understand the case. At first, his reticence was in sharp contrast with his colleagues around him. Sue carefully checked the relevant photos and materials of the case and decided that Guanghao was not the murderer. However, Sue's ability to solve crimes did not play any role at this time, and the police were recreating the incident under the encirclement of reporters. The recurrence of the crime ended in a farce. As a result, the superior procuratorate revoked the arrest warrant for Guanghao, and someone else took over the post of police chief.

The partnership between Park Duoman and Su Taiyun is very typical in crime movies. Park Duoman stands for violence and Su Taiyun stands for reason. (Of course, from the perspective of looks, the contrast between Park Ping-fan and Su Shuai is also typical. ) At first, there were differences between them: park geun-hye was dissatisfied with Sue's "usurping the role of master" and Sue despised park geun-hye's simplicity.

2. The third body

Su Taiyun continues to release his ability to solve crimes. He presented his key findings to the newly appointed director (that is, the common point of the two rape and murder cases was that they both happened in rainy days, and the women who were killed were all dressed in red), and speculated that a missing woman had been killed. The discovery of the third body proved that his judgment was correct. So, in order to apologize, police officer Park specially bought a pair of sports shoes for Guanghao.

At the same time, the contradiction between park geun-hye and the Soviet Union further intensified. Park initially dismissed Sue's speculation until Sue proved herself and suggested that Park's treatment methods were useless. The film shows the tense relationship between them in a series of details, such as Su mocking Park Jae-gwang for buying a pair of fake Nike shoes in a barbecue shop, and Su ignoring Park Jae-gwang's love in a karaoke bar. Park geun-hye felt that his position was challenged by ambitious people in Seoul. He deliberately found fault and doubted the motive of investigating this case in Gyeonggi Province, a backwater in Lai Su. Finally, in a scene in a karaoke bar (this is a very important scene to reveal the theme), the contradiction between the two broke out. In fact, we can see from this scene that the conflict between them can be understood as the conflict between traditional ideas and new ideas, or more specifically, the conflict between perceptual power and rational power.

3. The fourth body

Next, the film turns to the narrative of the fourth body discovery. At this point, due to the investigation direction (important clue) provided by Su, the investigation of a series of rape and murder cases began to be on the right track.

The police station deployed an operation on a rainy night, trying to lure criminals into taking the bait, but failed again. The film shows the murder of the fourth woman in a montage of telephone ringing (and the film also shows the murder of that woman). After inspecting the crime scene, police officers Su and Park put forward their own guesses: Su believed that the criminals came from a factory near the crime scene; Parker thinks the criminal is a man without pubic hair. In this film, the sentence of police officer Park is also regarded as a joke. On the one hand, Park's idea didn't attract the director's attention. On the other hand, it is a simple and obscene action, that is, going to the public bathroom to observe the naked man taking a bath (which also shows his belief in "Korean police investigating cases with their feet"). This also led to Park's absurd behavior of going to the local wizard for fortune telling.

Just when everyone was at a loss about the case, officer Gui Yu put forward a new important clue: the suspect would play the same song to the radio every time before committing the crime. At this point, a shot is slowly pushed to Guiyu's face, which shows the importance of this clue and also hints at everyone's psychological changes. Officer Su then went to the radio station and found the postcard of the song that the suspect asked to send to the radio station on the night of the incident. Unfortunately, nothing was found, and the case came to a standstill again.

There are two important details in this section. The first detail is that on the day when the police station deployed the operation, there was a conflict between the government and the people in the street. This film shows the influence of the people on the government. The second detail is what Su Taiyun and Gui Yu heard from two female students in the police booth on the night of the police action about the mysterious incident in the school toilet. These two details pave the way for the following narrative.

4. The second suspect, Qiao Bingchun

Park Doman and Joe Gu Yong follow the wizard's advice and go to the murder scene of the fourth woman to "investigate". They happened to meet Su Taiyun, who also came to investigate the case. At this time, the second suspect in the case appeared. Three men hiding nearby secretly looked at this very suspicious man: he took out a set of women's underwear from his clothes and put it on the ground, and began to masturbate to it. It turns out that he is still a transvestite, wearing ladies' underwear. All kinds of signs strengthened the three people's suspicion of the man, so they launched a hunt for the man.

It is worth mentioning that the pursuit of cross-dressing men is very wonderful. The change of scene, the use of long shots, the scheduling of details, the movement of shots, the control of rhythm, the choice of soundtrack, etc. are all the concentrated explosion points of film technical ability.

Relying on the sensitivity of Joe and Park Duoman, the second suspect, Qiao Bingchun, was successfully captured. The police still questioned Joe in the same way as Hirohiro. However, after some investigation, Joe's motivation was not found, and police officer Park, who was eager to solve the case, began to force Qiao Bingchun to record a false confession. At this time, the contradiction between the people protesting illegal detention in the police station and the police further intensified, and the police reduced the frequency of violent interrogation under the pressure of public opinion.

During the trial, Qiao Bingchun once again mentioned the school toilet. The film uses a key zoom lens from Joe to Sue to show the importance of this clue. Sue then went to school and found a female student who had told this story in the police box before to learn more. During this period, Su's communication with female students also laid the groundwork for Su's emotional changes.

The story goes on. During the investigation of the school toilet, Sue learned from a teacher that a strange woman lived on a nearby hill. The woman was wounded by the criminal, but escaped. From her dictation, another key clue was revealed: the criminal's hands were soft. The film highlights the woman's fears. Then, the woman with a sad face gradually faded out of the picture, followed by the montage of the road during the driving of the car and the solemn and sad soundtrack. At this point, halfway through the film, the tone changed from bright to dark, and the case became more and more confusing.

5. The fifth body

Su ruled out the second suspect, Qiao Bingchun, according to the clues provided by the woman, but this caused park geun-hye's dissatisfaction. The two men clashed again. At the same time, the same music is playing on the radio. However, at this time, all police forces were sent to suppress the public protests, and another tragedy was doomed to be irreparable. The fifth woman was killed.

During the autopsy of the murdered woman, the forensic doctor took out nine peaches from her vagina. Police officer Park was greatly touched by the criminal's cruel criminal methods, and his hostile attitude towards Sue began to ease. He asked Sue, "Do you often see this kind of thing in Seoul?" And tore up the judgment notes I made earlier. The two made up.

6. The third suspect, Park Sung-kyu

According to the address on the postcard of Song Dynasty on the radio, Simple and Two found the third suspect, Park. His appearance makes people feel far from the identity of the criminal: he is sitting at the desk of the factory reading a book and looks elegant.

The accumulation of evidence and emotions during the investigation made almost everyone believe that Park Sung-gway was the murderer. Therefore, Su Taiyun also participated in the trial of Park, which strengthened the authority of identifying Park as the murderer (Su's judgment was affirmed in the previous investigation); On the other hand, it also shows Sue's emotional changes after various surveys. Park's defense angered several policemen present, and Joe, who couldn't bear it, used violence again, and was finally banned from the trial by the director (one of the foreshadowing).

When the case was confusing again, Su suddenly remembered Guang Hao's earlier detailed description of the crime and identified Guang Hao as a witness in this case. So Simplicity and his wife went to the barbecue shop in Baijia to look for Guanghao's testimony, and happened to meet Gu Yong who was drinking in the barbecue shop. Drunk Gu Yong broke out and punched and kicked other guests in the shop, only to be suddenly stabbed in the leg by Guanghao with a wooden stick with nails (one of the bedding).

During the confrontation with Guanghao, Guanghao was very excited when Su asked Guanghao with a photo of Park Sung-gway. This once again affirmed Sue's judgment. Unfortunately, Guang Hao escaped to the track in excitement, failed to avoid the approaching train and was killed. Park Doman, who witnessed all this, was moved again.

Due to the pressure of public opinion, insufficient evidence, the death of witnesses and other reasons, the police had to send someone to spy on Park Shenggui's every move. During this period, the forensic doctor found the criminal's sperm on the clothes of the fifth murdered woman's body, but whether this was left by Park Sung-gway still needs to wait for the identification results of American medical institutions. This discovery seems to have brought a turning point for the case.

At this time, Joe also paid the price for his violent behavior-the leg stabbed by Hiro had to be amputated due to tetanus. This is another move of Park Duoman. It should be pointed out that this result is hardly Gu Yong's own fault, which is also the point repeatedly expressed in the film: South Korea's law enforcement agencies once had many shortcomings.

After the tragic events such as Guanghao's murder and Gu Yong's amputation, Park Duoman's psychology has changed greatly. At this time, his wife also advised him to give up his job as a policeman, and Park seemed to have reached a crossroads in his life (which also reflected the "memory" nature of the whole movie).

Third, the climax and result of the event.

With the discovery of the sixth female corpse, the story reached its climax.

While waiting for the sperm identification results, Su Taiyun has been monitoring Park Gui Xing. However, during a surveillance, Parker Gui Xing got lost. Within two hours after Park Sung-gway disappeared, another woman was killed, and this woman was the female student who had previously provided clues to Su Taiyun. The film is a close-up of a band-aid that Sue personally put on her waist for the dead girl. At this point, Su Taiyun's inner grief and indignation is vividly portrayed. The death of a schoolgirl became Sue's emotional fuse.

He decided that Park Sung-gway was the murderer and angrily came to Park Sung-gway's house and punched him-Sue's grief finally broke out. Park Doman, who arrived at this time, sent the sperm identification results from the United States. However, the results showed that the sperm at the crime scene did not match Parker Gui Xing's. Su Taiyun's mood is on the verge of collapse. He picked up a revolver and pointed it at Park Sung-gway to relieve his hatred, but Park Duoman stopped him. This shows the change of Park's thought: at this time, he has changed from reckless, impatient, superstitious and paranoid to calm and rational, trusting evidence and opposing violence. Here, the cameras cross the faces of Parker Gui Xing and Parker Dorman. However, Park Doman's method of "looking at people" is far from naive and absurd at this time. "Shit, I don't know." He said, and this more represents the confusion of human nature.

Park Duoman finally released Park Sung-kyu. Su Taiyun's mood finally collapsed. He fired two shots at Park Gui Xing, but they all missed. He watched in despair as Parker gradually disappeared into the unlit tunnel.

Four. Subsequent supplement

Time came to 2003, Park Duoman was already the father of two children and became a white-collar worker (it is not known whether he jumped ship after that case-handling task). At the end of the film, Park Doman happens to pass through the farmland where the first female body was found 17 years ago. It is also the mature season of wheat fields, which echoes the opening and closing of the film. Park got off and went to the ditch where the woman's body was found, thinking thoughtfully. His behavior aroused the interest of a little girl on the roadside. From the mouth of the little girl, I learned that a man was doing the same thing not long ago.

The film was finally fixed in the close-up of Park Doman's face, which was a bit of a surprise. Could that man be a murderer? The answer has become unimportant, and those long-forgotten memories represent far more than killing a person.
