Zhouyi is the earliest divination book in China. With its special system and expression, it laid a solid foundation for the establishment of technical mathematics in China. Because there are two kinds of divination in the late Shang Dynasty and the early Zhou Dynasty, it can be basically determined that Zhouyi was born after King Zhao of Zhou, or in the middle and late Western Zhou Dynasty at the earliest, but never in the late Shang Dynasty.

The eight-eight-sixty-four hexagrams recorded in Zhouyi were produced on the basis of digital hexagrams and painting hexagrams in Shang and Zhou Dynasties. There are two basic symbols in Yi Gua: "-"and "-",which is the first divination book with divination characters found in China so far.

The Zhouyi, which is popular now, consists of two parts. The first part is called the Book of Changes, that is, the Book of Changes itself, including sixty-four hexagrams, hexagrams, hexagrams names, hexagrams words, hexagrams names and hexagrams words. The second part is called Yi Zhuan, which includes ten articles on seven themes, namely Fu, Xiang, Cohesion, Classical Chinese, Divination, Preface and Miscellaneous Gua.

There are three kinds of arrangement order of the sixty-four hexagrams in Zhouyi, one is the order of the current popular version, the other is the order of the eight palaces in Fang Jing Yi Zhuan, and the other is the order of Zhouyi unearthed from the No.3 tomb of Mawangdui in Changsha.

According to the order of Zhouyi, the ancients had a verse:

Gankun Tunmeng needs a litigator. He is better than a small animal.
