Why do Chaoshan people call their mothers and aunts?

In some places in Chaoshan, people call their mothers "aunts", which means mothers, not aunts. This is the local culture and belongs to the dialect name created by the local people.

Chaoshan dialect belongs to Minnan language family. Its ancestors were from the Central Plains during the Han and Tang Dynasties. It is the language with the most phonetic components and the most complicated pronunciation mechanism in Chinese. Chaoshan dialect retains many characteristics and vocabulary of ancient Chinese and is an indispensable tool for studying historical allusions.
