What is the "Huangqiao Incident"?

The battle of Huangqiao, also known as the Huangqiao Incident, was a battle in which the New Fourth Army of the Soviet Union fought back against the Kuomintang die-hards in order to defend the anti-Japanese base areas in the Soviet Union.

1940, the jiangbei headquarters of the new fourth army led by Chen Yi defeated the 15000 government army led by Han Deqin, chairman of Jiangsu province, with 7,000 troops, and annihilated more than 1 1000 people, thus winning the decisive battle of Huangqiao.

It is generally believed that the Huangqiao Incident was one of the causes of the Southern Anhui Incident. It is one of the most famous battles since the adaptation of the New Fourth Army. The object of this campaign is the Kuomintang die-hards who adhere to the policy of "preventing, dissolving, restricting and opposing the Communist Party" under the leadership of Han Deqin, member of the Central Committee of the Kuomintang in China and chairman of Jiangsu Province.

The New Fourth Army won the battle of Huangqiao, killed Li Shouwei, commander of the 89th Army of the National Revolutionary Army, and recovered Jiangyan, which had been actively betrayed some time ago. The victory of the battle of Huangqiao laid a solid foundation for "consolidating southward advance, fighting eastward and advancing northward" proposed by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

From 65438 to 0940, War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression entered a stalemate. China * * * determined the strategic task of opening up northern Jiangsu and developing central China in order to persist in the war of resistance and oppose surrender. Chen Yi and Su Yu were ordered to lead the main force of the Jiangnan Command of the New Fourth Army into northern Jiangsu and establish base areas in Huangqiao area.

Huangqiao town is located in Taixing County in the north of Jiangsu Province, bordering the Yangtze River in the south and the Suzhong Plain in the north. It is of great significance to establish a base area centered on Huangqiao, which is convenient to echo our troops in the south of the Yangtze River, control the Yangtze River passage, threaten the Japanese aggressors, cut off the contact between the Kuomintang die-hards Han Deqin and the enemies in the south of the Yangtze River, lay the foundation for the anti-Japanese democratic base area in northern Jiangsu, and open up a new situation in War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression in central China.

Although the cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party was realized and the anti-Japanese national United front was established, the Kuomintang reactionaries did not fundamentally give up the negative anti-Japanese policy. They kept creating frictions and looking for gaps to attack the New Fourth Army.
