The name Mazu is a local name for female ancestors. It was not until Song Gaozong named Mazu as Mrs. Hui Ling in the Song Dynasty that Mrs. Mazu became a god recognized by the court. Taoist titles: Fu Dou, Xiao, Chun Ling, Fu Ji, Protecting the Country, Protecting the People, Miaoling, Zhaoying, Puji, Tian Fei and Hong Ren.

From the 26th year of Shaoxing, Song Gaozong to the Qing Dynasty, emperors conferred titles 36 times, and the title increased from 2 words to 64 words. The titles were Lady, Princess and Tian Fei, and the temple was built as the capital. In the twenty-third year of Qing Emperor Kangxi, it was named "Tianhou".
