Zhongxiang is located in the north-central part of Hubei Province, in the middle reaches of the Han River, and connects Xiangyang in the north, which is under the jurisdiction of Jingmen City.

Zhong Xiang, known as Ying in ancient times, is a famous historical and cultural city in China, an excellent tourist city in China, the hometown of longevity in China, the location of the Ming Tombs, a world cultural heritage, a national experimental zone for sustainable development, a national ecological demonstration zone, a national advanced county (city) for science, technology, culture and education, a provincial garden city, a national greening model county (city), the best financial credit county (city) in the province, and a national resource-exhausted transformation pilot city. Hubei is a provincial health city. It now administers 17 townships (offices), 3 state-owned farms and 2 provincial economic and technological development zones, with a total population of1030,000 (in 2007).

Zhongxiang is an important birthplace of Chu culture. This is an ancient and magical land. It was the capital of Chu during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. At the end of the Warring States period, it was the capital of Chu, and during the Three Kingdoms period, it was the county, state and government. The Ming Dynasty became the seat of Chengtianfu, one of the three municipalities directly under the Central Government, with a recorded history of more than 2,700 years.

The long history gave birth to splendid Chu culture, and produced a number of people with far-reaching influence in history, such as Song Yu, a writer of Chu Ci, and Mo Chounv, a Chu song and dance artist. Emperor Jiajing of the Ming Dynasty once made a fortune here. In A.D. 153 1 year, Zhu Houzong, Emperor Jiajing of the Ming Dynasty, was born and made a fortune here. Taking the meaning of "land of geomantic omen and auspicious bells", he gave the county name "Zhongxiang".

At the 4th United Nations International Symposium on Aging and Longevity on 20 15, Zhongxiang was certified as "the hometown of longevity in the world" by the expert committee.
