How to plant loquat trees

Loquat is a very ornamental fruit tree, which is evergreen all year round and has a very beautiful tree shape, so it is often planted as an ornamental plant. In rural areas, many people will plant several loquat trees in front of and behind their houses, because loquat trees can beautify the courtyard. Moreover, loquat ripens in April and May, which is earlier than other fruits and has strong seasonality. In addition, loquat tastes good, and the key is its high nutritional value, which is especially suitable for some people with cough. Eating loquat often has many benefits. How to plant loquat trees? What are the technical points of planting loquat after grafting for several years?

Loquat trees have strong adaptability, low requirements for soil, drought resistance and heat resistance, and are easy to manage after planting. As long as attention is paid to watering, fertilization, light and temperature, combined with proper pruning and pest control, the yield will generally not be low. There are two main ways to plant loquat trees: sowing and grafting.

Seed propagation is the simplest method and the germination rate is relatively high. Generally, after loquat matures, the fruit can be harvested and sown. In other words, mature loquat seeds can be collected for sowing in April and May every year. The operation method is also simple. Sow loquat seeds directly in the soil. Remember to plant them shallowly, bury them, then water them again and cover them with straw. Because the suitable temperature for loquat seed germination is 20℃ ~ 25℃, and the temperature during this period is very suitable. After a few days, loquat seeds will germinate. At this time, it is necessary to uncover the straw and then maintain it normally. However, it should be noted that the growth period of loquat trees planted and propagated is very long, and it usually takes about 15 years from sowing to fruiting, so most people choose grafting propagation.

Grafting propagation of loquat trees is technically more difficult and requires some grafting experience. The loquat tree propagated in this way has the characteristics of early fruiting and high survival rate, and can also well retain the excellent characteristics of the female parent. Loquat tree grafting is generally based on cutting, which can be carried out in mid-March or April-May. Selecting healthy loquat branches of 1-2 years old as cuttings, and then removing the lower leaves, as long as the terminal buds and leaves on both sides are kept. Rootstocks can be loquat seedlings and heather, which are cut horizontally at a position of 5-8 cm from the ground, and cuttings are quickly inserted into the rootstocks, and then tied tightly with plastic strips. Of course, if not, you can actually go to the flower market to buy grafted loquat seedlings, and then come back and plant them directly, which is very convenient!

But we should also pay attention to planting loquat seedlings. First of all, loquat trees should be planted in fertile soil, convenient irrigation and drainage and sunny places. This environment is most suitable for planting loquat trees. Moreover, when planting loquat trees, the row spacing should be reasonably controlled, and the planting density should not be too large, otherwise, the fruit crowns will cross after they are born, which will seriously affect the yield. Secondly, when transplanting loquat seedlings, the pit should be dug as large and deep as possible, with a width of about 45 cm and a depth of 25 cm to 30 cm, and base fertilizer should be put at the bottom. The last one is fertilization. Loquat trees like fertilizer, and only need to be fertilized two or three times a year at seedling stage. It is suggested that farmyard manure should be mainly used.

If managed in this way, the grafted loquat trees generally begin to bear fruit in the third year after planting, and the plant yield can reach 5 kg. After 8- 10 years, the loquat tree officially entered the full fruit period, and its life span was very long, and the fruit period was generally 30-40 years.
