Can osmanthus be grafted?

The advantages of grafting osmanthus fragrans are that it can maintain the excellent characteristics of osmanthus fragrans, improve the ornamental value, enhance the stress resistance and adaptability of plants, bloom early and overcome the phenomenon of difficult reproduction. More importantly, it can restore tree vigor, supplement missing branches and update varieties.

The specific operation is as follows:

1. Rootstock uses a U-shaped knife to dig a U-shaped groove, which is about 2.5 cm long, the same width as the scion, and the depth is half the diameter of the scion.

The scion has two buds and two leaves and a half, and the lower end of the scion is cut into a 45-degree oblique angle, which is arc-shaped. Stripping half the diameter of the scion;

2. Insert the scion into the groove of the rootstock. At this time, the cambium on both sides of the scion and the cambium on both sides of the rootstock are just aligned. The size of the U-shaped groove and the scion should be just right as far as possible, so that the scion can be closely embedded together, reducing the gap between the scion and the rootstock and improving the survival rate.

3. Large rootstocks can be grafted with multiple scions at the same time to make bonsai. Personally, I suggest grafting only two scions, and the grafting direction should be determined according to the needs of stump modeling.
