Who is the Five Heavenly Emperor?
The Five Gods were originally five wise tribal leaders and monarchs in ancient times. Ancient ancestors thought that influential monarchs would become immortals in the sky after their death, so they gradually derived the belief in five gods. Later, the five gods were absorbed by Confucian and Taoist myths, each with a different name and explanation.
The characteristics of the five heavenly emperors
The Five Heavenly Emperors are the gods in charge of five directions: east, west, north and south. People believe that they will become gods after their death, assisting the gods and the five emperors to rule the five countries by nature. The congenital five emperors have different names in Confucianism and Taoism.
The five emperors are matched with five elements and five colors, namely Jin Mu Fire and Water Earth, Bai Qing Xuan Chi Huang, Bai Di Shao Hao Jinde, Di Qing Tai Hao Mude, Xuan Di Zhuan Xu Shuide, Chi Di Huode and Huangdi Tude.
