There are five schools.

Chuanpai bonsai is represented by Chengdu and Chongqing. Lingnan school bonsai, represented by Guangzhou bonsai, began to form around the Ming Dynasty and was influenced by Lingnan painting school. Stump bonsai is mainly based on cutting branches, creating a unique branch-breaking technique with saving branches and cutting branches as the main method. Modeling methods are majestic trees, tall and straight trees, natural and wild trees, and short-stemmed and dense-branched trees.
