The Historical Origin of Laoshan Green Tea

1957 In the winter, Qingdao Garden Management Office began to carry out the experiment of transplanting tea seedlings, and most of the introduced tea seedlings were excellent varieties from southern Anhui and Zhejiang. Laoshan green tea was first planted in the nursery at the south foot of Taiping Mountain in Zhongshan Park. For the first time, 5000 biennial tea seedlings were shipped from Huangshan. Due to the improper departure time of tea seedlings and serious root damage, the cultivation of tea seedlings failed completely in the next spring, and none survived.

1959, the "guests" from the south stopped in front of Little Square in Taiqing Palace. At that time, more than 50,000 plants were planted, but due to poor management, only 5,000 to 1 1,000 plants survived. 27 tea plants planted in 1962 were found on the hillside near Shangqing Palace at an altitude of 300 meters.

From the middle and late 1980s to the early 1990s,1tea planting developed, but the planting technology was not popular, especially the tea-making technology was mastered by only a few people, and the number on the market was limited. By the early 1990s, the planting area of Laoshan tea was about 60 hectares.

After 1993, agricultural industrialization rose, and Laoshan tea showed strong vitality and gradually became the leading product of agricultural industrialization. On August 1 day, 2004, Laoshan Green Tea officially implemented the Technical Regulations for the Production of Laoshan Green Tea and the Technical Regulations for the Processing of Laoshan Green Tea, which became the first local tea standard in our city.
