In order to maintain their authority and dignity and consider their own safety, the Ming and Qing emperors built palaces, which were both magnificent and heavily guarded. In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, except maids, eunuchs and guards who served the emperor and his family, only officials and privileged people were summoned to enter. This is a restricted area, and outsiders can't cross it. Therefore, the imperial palaces in Ming and Qing Dynasties were both called Purple Palace and Forbidden Area, so they were called Forbidden City.
