Is Lao Jun Lao Zi?
Taoism believes that "the old gentleman on the throne" has turned into an infinite world. In different worlds, different periods and different regions, different incarnations have different names, all of which are the "incarnations" of the old gentleman in Taishang (such as moral Buddha, Laozi, yuanshi county Buddha, Zhenwu Emperor, Pangu and Guangchengzi).
Taishang Laojun established religion with the world, experienced robbery, opened heaven and earth, divided yin and yang, robbed the next world, and civilized people and heaven, but things were hidden. Taoism believes that Laozi is the eighteenth incarnation of the old gentleman. Lao zi is an old man, and the old man is not Lao zi.
In Taoism, Laozi is the first god who created everything, and he will exist forever when there is no universe. Laozi is just a doppelganger who exists as a human being when Laozi wants to transform all beings, just as Jesus is the spokesman of God on earth.
Taishang Laojun is recognized as the ancestor of Taoism, that is, Taishang Daozu, who has the consciousness of creation and redemption in Taoism. Too old gentleman, the Lord of the Tao, the ancestor of all religions, is unprecedented, starting from the infinite source, and finally endless, and the poor are endless. "Tao" has no beginning and no end, intangible and nameless, boundless, and self-taught. "Tao" is nothing and nature, and it is difficult for God to clear his name. They insisted that the honorific words were too high.
Lao Zi, surnamed Li Minger, is called Bo Yang. At the end of the Spring and Autumn Period, the year of birth and death is unknown (Hu Shi once speculated that Laozi was born in the early years of Zhou Lingwang in 570 BC), and he was from Chenguoku County in the Spring and Autumn Period of Zhou Dynasty (Kuxian, the name of ancient county, is generally considered by historians to be in Luyi County, Henan Province). China was an ancient thinker, philosopher, writer and historian, the founder and main representative of Taoist school.

Taishang Laojun issued an imperial edict, granting Zhang Daoling in the Eastern Han Dynasty the title of "three-day teacher" to inherit the Huang of the Han Dynasty, setting up a religious group of Tianshi Taoism, and using the skill of Huang to educate the religions believed by the minorities in Xishu, so Lao Zi naturally became the leader of the Protestant group.
Since Buddhism entered the Central Plains, this religion, which is familiar with China, has made scholars in the Han Dynasty generally believe that Laozi went west to India to become a Buddha. Buddhism, which has just been introduced into China, seems insignificant at this time, and it is attached to the development of Taoism. Buddhists who preach in the west also claim that Laozi is the Buddha's teacher. Therefore, Lao Tzu's idea of turning to Hu and going abroad to educate Hu people became social knowledge at that time.
Tao Hongjing rearranged the map of the true spirit, and regarded the virtual emperor Daojun Yuanshi Tianzun, Taishang Daojun Lingbao Tianzun, Housheng Jinque Dijun and Taishang Laojun Moral Tianzun as the highest gods.
Lingbao school regards the status of Lingbao Buddha and Yuanshi Buddha as the most important, and Tianshidao regards Taishang Laojun as the highest god.
The three factions have their own ways, and they are not completely consistent on the issue of the most high god. With the development of Taoism and the blending of various schools, the unified supreme god "Sanqing" appeared at the end of the Northern and Southern Dynasties, namely, Yuanshi Tianzun, Lingbao Tianzun and Moral Tianzun. The appearance of Sanqing God marks the final finalization of Taoist immortal pedigree.
The establishment of "Sanqing" God has experienced a long development process. When Taoism was first established, Laozi was its ancestor, called Taishang Laojun, also known as Taishang Daojun, and was regarded as the highest god.
For example, the Taipingjing compiled by others and the Taoist books written by others were all given by the old gentleman. It was not until Kou of the Northern Wei Dynasty wrote the seal of Yunyong Xinke Record the True Classics that his title of "Shi Tian" was given by the old gentleman. This is a common feature of early Taoism, including Taiping Road and Wudoumi Road.
Even after that, the origin of Quanzhen Daoism is still that the old gentleman passed it on to Jin Niang, Jin Niang passed it on to the truth in the white clouds, and the truth in the white clouds passed it on to Wang and Wang. Zhong Liquan awarded Lv Dongbin and Liu Haichan, Wang Zhongyang of Lv Dongbin and Beibei Town of Chongyang. Quanzhen religion originated from Laozi, and respected Wang as the ancestor of Quanzhen religion.
After the emergence of Taoist schools such as Shangqing and Lingbao in the middle and late Eastern Jin Dynasty, the Taoist concept of respecting god has changed. These new Taoists no longer respect Taishang Laojun as the highest god, but take Yuanshen or Yuanshen and Taishang Avenue as the highest gods.
In the classics of these two schools, the old gentleman on the throne is also mentioned, but it is often put in a secondary position, and some classics even regard it as the disciple and the old gentleman on the throne of the beginning.
This difference can be clearly seen in the introduction of Taoism in Shu Wei Shi Lao Zhi and Sui Shu Jing Ji Zhi. The Book of Wei, Volume 114, Records of the Interpretation of the Old, says, "The source of Taoism comes from Laozi. It is self-evident, innate and rich in resources. In Yujing, he is the Sect of the God King; I am the Lord of the flying fairy. "
In fact, the founder of Taoism is Zhang Ling, who is called Zhang Tianshi. Laozi is regarded as the ancestor of Taoism in Taoism, and his book Laozi has been renamed Tao Te Ching, which has become a major religious classic. Since the legend of the immortals, I have been listed as a fairy.
During the Eastern Han Dynasty, Chengdu Axe King wrote the Monument to the Virgin of Laozi, which combined Laozi with Taoism and regarded Laozi as the god of heaven and earth. It became the embryonic form of Taoist creationism. When Emperor Huan of the Han Dynasty, Emperor Huan of the Han Dynasty personally offered sacrifices to Laozi and regarded Laozi as the ancestor of Xiandao.
In the Tang Dynasty, the emperor honored Lao Zi as the Emperor Xuanyuan, and in the Song Dynasty, Lao Zi was named the Emperor Laojun. His Taoist honorific title is "the old gentleman on the throne", also known as "mixed Yuan Di", and he is also the moral god among the founders of taoist sanqing.
