The small branches of Lagerstroemia indica are square, and the long oval leaves are opposite on both sides of the branches. It blooms in midsummer, and draws a string of long panicles from the top of small branches. The flower is reddish and looks like a small roulette wheel. Its flowering period is very long, from summer to autumn, about 100 days, so people call it Hundred Days Red. Lagerstroemia indica has a wonderful phenomenon. When people scratch its trunk, its leaves and flowers will keep shaking, just like people are tickled. Therefore, people also call it the itch tree. What's going on here? It turns out that the branches of crape myrtle are very soft. Touching the trunk will cause the branches to shake, as if they were really ticklish.
